Today’s Schubert is the extraordinary Fantasie in C major for violin and piano probably written for the young violinist Josef SlavÃk in December 1827. It’s probably the most virtuosic piece composed up to that point in history and is completely novel in its form and structure. We also play Mozart’s magnificent sonata in Eb K 481 composed in the summer of 1785 and some of Elgar’s beautiful salon pieces for violin and piano.
